Autumn is officially here! It’s one of my favourite seasons, but it’s also a time when my skin starts to need extra TLC. Every year my normal-oily skin quickly becomes zapped of moisture thanks to the radiator heat and the crisp air. This year I’m planning ahead with Very, thanks to their huge selection of gorgeous skincare brands. I’m making sure I have a solid routine, and products ready to help keep dehydration at bay.
A huge part of my self care routine is prioritising skincare. On those super busy days, it’s giving myself a few minutes every morning and evening to relax and focus on one thing. As we head into autumn, I definitely recommend doing this. It’s a good way to start and end your day with looking after your skin. It’s a time that’s just for you, and a mini practise of self love.
The brand I was drawn to most on the Very website was Elemis. The products are made up of high quality ingredients, and everything I’ve tried from them before has been a big hit. Here’s a run down of my routine, morning and night, products that tackle dehydration, and how I integrate more self care into my skincare routine… Plus, the stand out products I intend to use over the next few months.
Morning Skincare Routine For Dehydrated Skin
In the summer months, my morning skincare routine is typically a serum and moisturiser then I’m good to go. As we move into colder territory I amp this up. I start off by cleaning my skin, cleansers are usually one product I do tend to switch between, I find they rarely wow me, it takes something good for me to repurchase. I’m only a couple of weeks into using the Elemis AHA Glowy Cleanser, but it’s a cleanser that actually makes a difference. It contains pumpkin to gently exfoliate and leave the skin super glowy. It smells delicious and makes for the perfect morning and evening cleanser.
If your skin is more on the oily side, I’d consider keeping this just for the evening. Elemis have a huge range of cleansers available at Very. If you’re not sure on your skin type, have a peruse through the Very skincare hub. You’ll find skincare recommendations based on your skin type.
The Face Mist & Serum To Keep Skin Hydrated
After cleansing, I move onto my toner/ mist. This is a step I’ve added in recently to add more moisture to my skin. The Elemis Kefir-Tea mist is a blend of antioxidant-rich coconut water, rooibos tea and vegan kefir ferment. It leaves my skin feeling fresh (perfect to wake up quicker in for the dark winter mornings) and provides extra hydration.
The mist also has a calming scent. Scent plays a huge part in helping you relax and feel more at ease. While applying this, I take a moment to just take a deep breathe, have a mini reset and enjoy it. It’s also a 4-in-1 product so can also be used to prime and set makeup, or throughout the day as a ritual to remind you to breathe, reset and come back to the present moment.
Post face mist, I like to add another layer of hydration. I’m really enjoying using the Superfood range from Elemis, and their Superfood CICA Calm Hydration Juice has been my serum of choice for the past few weeks. It’s lightweight, creamy and super hydrating. Perfect for me as I have combination skin. I find that this makes my skin appear more plump, radiant and healthier overall. I use two pumps for my face and neck, and apply it by gently patting the product into my skin. It has a cooling effect so feels relaxing and calming to apply. It’s a real treat, especially during the darker mornings, the cooling gives me a little boost.
The Ultimate Hydrating Day Time Moisturiser
A big claim above, but I’m beyond impressed with the Elemis Superfood Day Cream. My fellow dehydrated skin readers will know the struggle, the feeling of super tight skin post shower that takes an army of creams. The Superfood day cream is an illuminating day time moisturiser that brings balance to combination skin, and helps to hydrate. As the final step in my routine (apart from SPF), I’ll really take my time to massage this into my face and neck.
I know this post has focused heavily on Elemis (with good reason, this Superfood range is incredible), but Very do also stock some other incredible skincare brands. Including REN, Emma Hardie and Murad.
I hope this has given you some inspiration on how to keep your skin hydrated as we head into the colder months.
