It’s been a wee while since I spoke about anything beauty related so I thought it was about time I bought you up to speed with some current beauty bits I’m reaching for everyday. Over the past few years my blog has definitely become more of a lifestyle space, but beauty still feels like the bread and butter of it, and ultimately it will always have a place in my heart. I definitely want to start sharing more again, so over the next few months expect a bit of a 360 and some more beauty related content.
September was a busy old month and the last thing I fancied at the end of the day was spending even 10 minutes on my skincare, so admittedly I got a little lazy. Now the heating is back on (mornings only for now, but the cold is creeping in) my skin is suffering and is drinking up every ounce of hydration it can, so to help with that I’ve gone back to the La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 Hyaluronic acid serum. It’s a gloopy clear serum type product, I don’t have much else like it to compare to, but my skin doesn’t feel tight as though it’s constantly in a clay face mask and any moisturising creams or oils I use afterwards sink into my skin better. Overall everything feels more hydrated and that’s exactly what I need.
So as I mentioned keeping moisture in my skin is the current issue, to amp things up I’m using the NUXE Creme Fraiche 48 hr Moisturising Cream*. I’ll be honest this feels like quite a basic product, but it does what it says on the tin (although, I’m not sure if I back a full 48hours?) anyway, I have quite a few moisturisers I could go for, and I keep reaching for this and wanting to use it. It’s a light cream but packs a punch when it comes to moisture and sinks into the skin quickly. A good’un if you’re looking for something basic that really does work.
I’m actually nervous to see my hairdresser at the end of October because my hair is currently frazzled and hasn’t been cut since June – seriously, I’m actually quite embarrassed, but there’s been two things that have kept me in love with my hair in terms of styling and they’re both from Percy and Reed. The first is their Bold and Beautiful Dry Instant Volumising Spray*, it’s amazing for creating some grit and texture and I use this when I wave my hair in the attempt for it to look more like effortless, natural waves than actually being curled by my straighteners. I’ve found this to brush out easily, and it has the iconic Percy and Reed scent which literally smells like you’ve doused your hair in perfume – a win in itself.
To try and sort out the rather dry, split ends, and the final step of my hair routine has been the Percy and Reed Smooth No Oil for Fine Hair*. Aside from the light Moroccan Oil I’ve never really got on well with oils, but this is seriously something else. It’s nourishing and provides the same results as oil but isn’t greasy, I run this through the ends of my hair and it just smooths everything over. And yes, like the spray I would happily bottle up the scent of this product and wear it as a perfume.
There’s been quite a few new makeup bits in my life that I haven’t shared yet so I think an overview of those is due, but two of the stand out things are from ByTerry. It’s been a brand I’ve swooned over for years thanks to Lydia Millen and I’ve been trying out the Hyaluronic Hydra Powder* and Hyaluronic Hydra Primer*. To be honest I think they deserve a dedicated blog post, but in a nut shell they’re both that step up from so many other products, I’ve noticed it in how they sit on the skin, last throughout the day and actually make my skin feel.
I really want to find something that compares, but I just can’t seem to replace is the Glossier Boy Brow. You’re probably bored of me mentioning this but I just haven’t found anything that’s better! I use the shade brown to lift my brows and make them look fuller. The results last all day, you don’t end up with crispy brow hairs, and it makes any pencil products I use underneath look a little more natural. Another thing I use daily without fail is the Bobbi Brown creamy corrector in light to medium bisq, it’s just about the only thing I can find that actually conceals the blue tones around my eyes that are unfortunately hereditary – thanks mum and dad. It lasts all day, doesn’t crease and it’s erased the need to throw a load of concealer under my eyes.
Couldn’t do this post without mentioning my current holy grail foundation – yep, just put that out there. I got to work with Dior earlier this year to promote their Glow Forever Foundation* – the dream! Since then it’s become one of my go to bases. It blends beautifully, doesn’t go patchy and has a good medium coverage. Having combination skin I’m a wee bit shiny in my t-zone by the end of the day, but that’s just expected and I can easily touch it up. It’s like a toned down version of the It Cosmetics CC Cream, so perfect for work and day to day when I want a bit of coverage.
So there’s a bit of an update on where I’m at with beauty at the moment, are any of these your favourites?
