My Updated Makeup Collection & Storage.

I’m slowly being converted to a more minimal way of living, but I’ve never been able to give up my overflowing makeup stash. I seem to attach memories to different products, MAC’s Up The Amp took me back to my uni days (bright purple lipstick), and a *kind of crusty looking* Wet N Wild trio of eyeshadows was one of my first drugstore purchases when I went to New York in 2016.

I know four draws full of makeup is still excessive, but this weekend I said goodbye to about 1/3 of my stash, so I thought it was worth sharing what made the cut. I have filmed a video doing the clear out which has led me to this new set up, I found some right old makeup gems (including MACs Mineralised Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle – old but gold), but I’ve managed to curate a smaller selection of products and I bloomin love every single thing. As Maria Kondo would say, if it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid!

I’ve had the acrylic draws for around 18 months now and they’ve really been a game changer to keep everything a little more tame. I did write a blog post sharing my new and improved makeup storage when I first started using them, I still think out of all options this is the best storage method for me. I can see everything, switch up the products easily and now it’s a little more streamlined I know for sure everything will be getting used. The draws I have are unfortunately out of stock, but I have found this pretty much identical set from Muji.

The everyday edit.

I’ve dedicated the top draw to things I can quickly grab and pretty much throw on, I’ve also included some things I want to use up (including two mini Benefit Roller Lash mascaras, v good mascara but I don’t need two!). My favourite base is the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, I’ve gone through 3 of these now and as you can see my back up is ready and waiting. I’m also really enjoying the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer, this conceals the blue tones around my eyes and stays put all day, an amazing find from 2018. For my lip products I’ve got a couple of lip liners, but I’ve decided to keep all of my lipsticks in one place, in the hope I stop reaching for the same blaaddyyy thing.

Lets talk lip products.

Ok, I’m currently having the realisation that there’s actually still quite a lot of lipsticks here… I’m not gunna lie, they’re my weakness. Charlotte Tilbury and MAC are definitely my go to brands, although I think Bitch Perfect from Charlotte Tilbury is my all time favourite, “holy grail” lipstick, it’s a muted, nudey pink in a satin finish. I also love the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, for such a matte finish they are so comfortable and the shade range is divine.

The best thing about having a clear out is discovering old favourites, I had one of those ah ha moments when I came across the Laura Mercier lipstick in Milky Way. It’s an amazing cool toned nude that’s perfect for the colder months. Another rediscovery is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, I properly got into these in 2016, I tried Stockholm for the first time in about a year the other day and I’ve fallen straight back in love with them. I’ve really shopped my stash when it came to the lipsticks.

Eyes and brows

I used to slap on eyeshadow like it was going out of fashion, honestly I found about 7 shimmery copper  shades that were pretty much identical! I’ve really streamlined this draw, got rid of any cream eyeshadows that were dry af and just kept the good stuff. I don’t use them all the time *I referred to a night club as “the club” the other day, so I guess those days are over*, but if I do have a special occasion I LOVE the Pixi Fairy Lights liquid eyeshadows. There was a lot of hype around these when they first launched, and rightly so, they’re the most beautiful full glitter, pigmented eyeshadows. Something a lot more muted that I wear day to day is the Giorgio Armani Eye and Brow Maestro in Copal, it’s the most perfect everyday muted cool toned brown. I feel like I should probably address the three Eylure x Fleur De Force Brow Definers, basically they’re half price at, so I took advantage! A great dupe for the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil.

I’ve saved the biggest draw till last. I have loads of products for the summer months and that’s definitely when I experiment with different foundations, blushers, bronzers etc so much more. In the winter I tend to stick with what I know in the hope my skin behaves. I feel like compared to other draws there’s more variety with this, I’ve got everything from the thickest, fullest coverage you can find – Estee Lauder Double Wear I’m looking at you… To moisturisers that have a little tint and I keep exclusively for holidays. You may be able to see the Glossier Priming Moisturiser poking out from under the L’Oreal bronzer… I only found this shoved under some old foundations, neglected, barely used, and it’s only of my favourite primers! Basically through this whole process it feels like I’ve been on a massive makeup shopping spree with all of the not so new goodies I’ve rekindled my love for.

Maybe when it comes to autumn it would be a good time to look through and see what I didn’t use over the summer months, but for now I have a completely clear draw in my dressing table to do whatever I like with, and a makeup collection that although smaller is still more than enough.

I’m in the process of sorting out my products (I’m currently obsessed with Marie Kondo!) and it’s going well. I need to get some storage items. xx

I’ve actually never properly read Marie Kondos book, I’m reading an Edited Life though and they’re quite similar in a way. Glad to hear it’s going well, storage definitely makes a massive difference 🙂

I find these type of posts so interesting. I’m trying to declutter my entire life (seriously) and think starting with my makeup collection is a good place to start. Wish me luck!
