If you come out of IKEA empty handed then you’ve either gone in there for the cafe or it’s a bloomin’ miracle. Over the past few months we’ve been slowly decorating our first home and it just so happens a lot of what we’ve picked up has been from *you guessed it* IKEA…
The big bits.
In terms of furniture the two things we knew we wanted to spend a little more on from the get go were our bed and sofa (two v important places). However, when it came to drawers, bedside tables and a dressing table and other bigger bits of furniture we didn’t leave ourselves much of a budget. This is the thing I really love about IKEA, it’s affordable and the perfect starting point when it comes to furnishing a home. We went for cream/ white for most things to start with keeping everything simple and pretty neutral. We have the MALM Chest in our bedroom and it’s probably the best £50 we have spent in terms of how useful they’ve been, we have two drawers each for smaller clothing and I have no idea what we would do without that storage.
We didn’t do this on purpose, but we also have the MALM dressing table. We picked this up on a whim from the bargain corner, hard not to as it was reduced to £30! It’s not perfect by any means, I wish the draw was bigger, but the simple design makes it easy to style and it fits in well with the rest of the furniture in our bedroom. My all time favourite buy is our new chair, I feel like it’s a bit of a west elm dupe and I’m just obsessed with the mid century style (it’s actually really comfortable too).
Some smaller details.
IKEA is sneaky, it’s so easy to leave with bags full of stuff when you went in for one or two things. I’m getting better at picking things I feel like I genuinely need and going in with a bit more of a plan, but it still happens every single time… Rant over, I’ve been meaning to pick up some faux greenery for a while and I spotted these eucalyptus leaves, which will work perfectly for our living/ dining room area or even on the floor they’re big enough to stand out and make a really nice feature.
Also for our living room we bought these gorgeous prussian blue velvet cushion covers, I loved the idea of having a deep blue as the main colour for winter and I absolutely love it. It works well with the brass/ gold accessories we have and the grey sofa. I’ve included a closer look at all of the other smaller bits in my recent video below with links to everything mentioned too.
