I used to be a makeup gal through and through, don’t get me wrong I do still love it, I think the draws full of the stuff demonstrates that – but my love for skincare is on another level! Since finding products that actually make a difference I’ve been looking after my skin more than ever. Getting married earlier this year also introduced me to some new products, and made me even more conscious to stick to a routine and get the most out of it.
My morning routine is pretty different to the ritual I like to do in the evening… It’s quick, I use less products but it works for me and the quality of the products means that I don’t feel the need to overload my skin. I’m also conscious of the fact that I’ll be applying makeup over the top, so I don’t want anything that’s going to interfere with that. My motto when it comes to a lot of things is quality over quantity, and for skincare it’s no different. I have collaborated with Skin Doctors to tell you more about their potent vit. C Ampoules. They are the heart of my morning skincare routine and the product I rely on for added radiance, hydration and ensuring my skin will look as best as it can in the long run. My skin has been behaving in terms of breakouts since the beginning of the year, so I’m finding that I’m using more products that are going to give me a glow instead of just having to tackle blemishes, honestly it’s been so nice to finally see good results from products because my skin is clear!
I know with skincare you need to wait a good 3-4 weeks to really see the results, but I’m impatient and need instant gratification! I’m keen to start fighting any signs of skin ageing that come my way now, I use SPF every single day and I’m already using anti-aging products (hoping my skin will thank me for it in 20 years time). The ampoules contain 10% of pure Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) which encourages the skin to produce more collagen, leaving it looking a little firmer and radiant. I’ve noticed my skin looks plumper and definitely radiant after 3 weeks of using these once a day, the product works at a cellular level so it definitely is one of those that provides an instant result, but the main benefit is in long term use.
Another thing that’s different to a lot of products is the packaging, the perfect amount of serum is encased in an ampoule so I know I’m putting the right amount of product on every time. Another thing I love about this is how clean they are to use, no dipping fingers in pots first thing in the morning, I know my skin is getting the right amount of product every time and it’s completely unspoilt – a benefit I’ve never thought about with using ampoules before introducing them to my routine.
The serum itself feels more intense than a regular serum, it’s beautifully silky and glides over my skin, but it’s still light weight and sinks in after a minute or so. At first use I thought this may interfere with my makeup as it does have a silicone feel to it, but that soon disappears once the product has completely sinked into the skin. It’s by far the most luxurious step in my morning skincare routine and the one step I see the most difference with in terms of my skins texture, luminosity and levels of hydration.
I only consistently use two other products on my skin in the morning, some times I’ll throw in an eye cream or toner if I’m feeling fancy (usually on the weekends when I have a bit more time on my hands). The first that’s of-course a staple is the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, I love using this in the morning to quickly refresh my skin and take away any dead skin cells that have come about whilst I’ve slept – gross but true. I’ve been using this cleanser since Glossier launched in the UK last September, it’s affordable and gentle on the skin so perfect to give my skin a quick wash in the morning. I’m quite conscious of making sure not to strip my skin of moisture, so I just use one pump of this and it works a treat.
Lastly, I can’t go without using a moisturiser, one I have been loving at the moment is the Clinique Moisture Surge. I picked this up in World Duty Free and I’ve been using it for the past 2 months. This has a gel like consistency so it’s perfect for summer, and surprisingly although it’s lightweight it really does add more hydration and leaves my skin feeling nourished. A good one for anyone who has combination skin like me, it hasn’t made me oily at all and helps keep my skin feeling fairy normal rather than dry/ oily.
