After booking the venue my next priority was to find a makeup artist that I trusted with my wedding day makeup.
Considering I love makeup so much I’ve never (before my wedding trial) had my makeup done professionally. I’m quite particular and I feel like I know what suits me, so previously for nights out and special occasions I’ve just always thought to do it myself. Although, from the start the thought of doing it myself for my wedding day never appealed to me, so after booking the venue I made it my mission to find someone I could trust to do my wedding makeup, and I started gathering inspo from everywhere.
I would describe the kind of makeup I’m going for as glamourous, yet natural at the same time. I want to feel like the best version of myself, so I’m not stepping out of my comfort zone and going with any new or crazy colours, it’s fairly neutral – just as I like. I think everyone has a vision in their head of typical bridal makeup, but I think it’s just down to what you feel most comfortable wearing – and a mix of what enhances your natural beauty most.
I found the best way to get inspiration to begin with was by looking at real life brides. Forget all of the glossy magazine shoots that are staged, airbrushed and unrealistic, looking at photographers work of real brides, scrolling through instagram pages of wedding makeup artists and reading blog posts is how I decided on how I wanted my makeup. I used Pinterest to store all of the makeup looks that I had seen online that I liked the look of, this was really helpful as I could see right infront of my the kind of makeup I was drawn to.
After this I took inspiration from the kind of makeup I like to wear usually. I love wearing lashes on special occasions so I’ll definitely be wearing some on my wedding day, I opt for a warm toned eye shadows than cool toned, so I’m also sticking with that. It’s looking at these little things that I do which really helped me visualise my overall look and exactly what I wanted.
Having a trial with my makeup artist was so useful, she made so many amazing suggestions and I’m over the moon with the finished look. I have a vlog of the day on my YouTube channel here. It’s exactly how I would do my makeup but better. I knew I would like what Jodie created because every single picture she uploads to her Instagram of other brides I absolutely love. I would say before booking a makeup artist go through all of their work and make sure that you like 9/10 of the looks they create, and their style when it comes to makeup.
If you’re in the Manchester region I highly recommend Jodie (a little confusing because we have the same name haha). I can’t wait for her to do my makeup again, and to share a full list of the products that were used on the day.
