As much as I love using highend makeup, there are some seriously impressive products out there that are more affordable yet just as good (if not better)
I did a post similar to this back in February, over the past few months I’ve discovered some new products that haven’t left my everyday makeup bag – and they just so happen to be affordable.
The most recent affordable edition to my everyday makeup routine is the Fleur De Force Brow Define Micro Pencil in medium. I am living for this brow pencil – it’s genius! Naturally my brows are much lighter at the start and get darker and need more definition at the arch. This brow pencil comes with two different shades which makes it even easier to achieve a really natural looking brow. Both shades are ashy which works perfectly for me, teamed with the Glossier Boy Brow my brows stay in place all day.
When it comes to foundation I’m annoyingly fussy, I’ve tried so many high end and more affordable bases and only a few work for me. The L’Oreal True Match Foundation is a gem, and for the winter months it suits me perfectly. I use the shade vanille rose, which is neutral in tone and the second lightest shade. It’s quite watery which makes it easy to blend and buildable for a good medium coverage base. It has slight flexes of shimmer running through it which add a subtle luminosity to the skin which actually looks really beautiful. I’ve found it to sit well on both oily skin (over a primer) and on any dry patches too. My one issue is the lasting power, I’m used to double wear which stays on my skin for 12 hours looking good, after 6/7 hours this foundation does start to move a little – so I’m just selective of when I use it and make sure to carry powder.
My holy grail, ride or die concealer is the Maybelline Fit Me!. I know a lot of people have issues with the shade range of this, but for me the shade Light does work well as it has slightly more of a yellow undertone. It’s creamy, doesn’t crease under my eyes and offers such good coverage that lasts all day. As you can see from the picture my current tube is on it’s last legs and I really need to repurchase.
For mascaras I really wanted to mention two, the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara and Maybelline Lash Sensational . The Lash Paradise mascara is perfect for those days I want lot of volume from my lashes, it builds up volume quickly without looking clumpy and it lasts on my lashes all day. However, on a day to day basis I tend to want separation, length and volume (so basically the whole package), and the Lash Sensational is just incredible for this. I have recently discovered a highend mascara that I love, but I do still like the Lash Sensational and think it’s the best affordable mascara you can buy. It’s buildable, the brush means you can reach every single lash hair, and it lasts on the lashes all day. For £7.99 you can’t go wrong!
Lastly are two lip liner faves, the Gosh Velvet Touch Lip Liner in Nougat Crisp is something I’ve mentioned before because it’s the ultimate Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk dupe. I have three now because it always seems to be hidden in the bottom of my handbags! As the velvet touch name suggests it has a slightly creamy consistency which makes the lips look more plump because the lip line isn’t so sharp. It’s a similar shade to pillow talk too, a cool toned pinky nude which is my everyday lip colour. The other lipliner I reach for a lot is the NYX Professional Makeup Slim Lip Pencil in Mauve. In terms of formulation this is similar to MAC lipliners, so when I want something a little more long lasting I reach for this as it’s not as waxy and creamy – but still non drying and it does feel comfortable on the lips. Mauve is a gorgeous cool toned pinky nude like the Gosh lipliner, except it’s slightly darker – perfect for this time of year.
