My Festive Makeup Picks

It's pretty much been Christmas for the best part of 2 weeks already - and for me there's nothing better than festive, glittery, Christmas makeup!
I've discovered quite a few new products this year that are perfect for special occasions. I like to go for makeup that's long lasting and flawless, but not too heavy. Here are my top festive makeup picks...

BASE/ SKIN
There has been the odd occasion that I've checked my makeup whilst on a night out to find the majority of my foundation has disappeared - never a good look. Now I always opt for a primer, which definitely helps, I use the Benefit Porefessional just around my nose (a game changer if you have oily skin or open pores), then I've been absolutely loving the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer* for everywhere else. I tend to go for mattifying foundations so this combo works well to keep everything in place, whilst leaving my skin looking glowy and fresh.

During the winter months I always have the Estee Lauder Double Wear around as a back up, but recently I have been absolutely loving the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk* foundation. I've tried the Power Fabric which I thought I would prefer as it's supposed to be more long lasting, but surprisingly the luminous silk is my favourite by a mile. It's lightweight, offers a good medium/ full coverage with a satin finish AND it lasts so well on the skin. It's beautifully packaged and I just think it's a really good all rounder. Well worth the hype!

I'm not a massive blusher fan usually, but I have been reaching for Nars Orgasm blush just to add a touch of colour back into my cheeks. It has flexes of gold shimmer running through it that look subtle yet lovely on the skin. Combined with the Becca Glow On The Go Set in Opal which is my absolute ride or die highlighting duo, my skin ends up looking nice and glowy which I love. The thing I love about Opal most is how natural it looks on the skin, it isn't too blinding or obvious but gives a gorgeous glow.
When it comes to eye makeup every single year the MAC pigments make an appearance, I have Vanilla Pigment and Tan which are both beautiful. Loose pigments are well worth the hassle and the perfect finishing touch to festive eye makeup. Having said that, this year a product that's stole the show when it comes to eye makeup is the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette, I'm actually obsessed with this and I've neglected pretty much all of my other palettes for it. The palette contains 12 different shades, both matte and glitter, split up into different categories depending on the occasion. The shadows are pigmented and the glitter shades show up beautifully, it's pricey but something that's hard not to love - look at that packaging too!

If I don't want to wear lashes (which is rare) I'll use the Giorgio Armani Eccentrico mascara* - I've mentioned it so much over the past couple of months but it's just so good, perfect for volume and length that lasts on the lashes. When it comes to false lashes I've been obsessed with the Fleur Loves lashes.
For lips if I'm not going for a nude (sometimes I'll be boring, depends on my outfit) it will either be Tom Ford PUSSYCAT or Laura Mericer in Temptation. Pussycat isn't a shade I reach for as much anymore, but it's a beautiful mauve that dries down matte without being drying. It lasts really well too and tends to compliment the warm toned glittery eyes I tend to go for. For a red lip the Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lipstick in Temptation* is absolutely beautiful for the festive season. It's the only true red shade that I've found which I actually like to wear. The formulation is perfect too, it's matte without being drying and doesn't make my lips look flat, it also lasts a good 4-5 hours before being touched up too.

Once my festive makeup is complete I always set it using the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. This is one of those products I've repurchased over and over again for the past 5 years, like a primer I notice such a difference in how long my makeup lasts when I use this. I always purchase the travel size as it does seem quite pricey to spend over £20 on what feels like water - but trust me it's worth it!
