It’s that time of year again!
There have been so many products that I discovered in 2016, and even 2015 which have seen me through the year, instead of mentioning those again, I’ve decided to ramble about the beauty discoveries I’ve made in 2017 alone.
I’m going to start off with skincare, during the second part of this year my skin took a turn for the worst and I switched up my whole routine to try and fight the breakouts. It’s kind of worked, and things are definitely calming down *THANK GOD* and I’m confident two new products are helping. The first is the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, I have combination skin that’s prone to breakouts, so a good cleanser is so important. The Milky Jelly Cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean, soft and cleansed, without feeling dehydrated. My brother got me a back up of this for Christmas (thanks Jake!), so, if you’re looking for an affordable cleanser I highly recommend it.
Another product that’s made it’s way into my routine is the Sunday Riley U.F.O oil*, when an email landed in my inbox asking if I wanted to try this I could have jumped for joy (thinking about it, I probs did literally jump for joy), as it’s been on my wishlist for yonks. This hasn’t actually helped to clear the bigger blemishes I had, it’s definitely not a targeted spot treatment, however I can’t get over how clear the rest of my skin looks since using this. My forehead and cheek area are blemish free and it’s helping to keep blackheads and smaller blemishes away. I’ve noticed my skin is much more balanced and it’s no where near as oily as it used to be. It’s a skincare product that has delivered the exact results it said it would. I use 3 drops of this in the evening and it’s worked a treat, this will be something I repurchase when it runs out fo sureeee.
Lastly, a product that’s kind of skincare related, the Tan-Luxe Self Tan Drops. I actually discovered this through a beauty box I purchased earlier this year, and I don’t think it’s something I would have even considered if I hadn’t have bought that. In short, if you fake tan your body then this is an absolute must. I never used to fake tan my face because I struggled to find a tanner that wouldn’t break me out, with this product you add 1-4 drops to your moisturiser and apply that to your face, when you wake up in the morning you have a glow – it’s that simple. I use 3 drops 2/3 times a week which works a treat. It’s a great way to feel more confident on makeup free days too.
Onto the makeup bits! I have to start with the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, I’ve gone on and on about it but it’s just so beautiful. If I’m to wear a highlighter in the day time it will be this, it’s illuminating and leaves the skin looking naturally glowy without that harsh highlighter look. I bought this as part of a set, but once this runs out I’ll definitely be repurchasing a full size. Another Glossier fave is the Boy Brow, I have this in the shade brown and it’s the best brow taming product I’ve ever tried. It sets the brows making them look full and fluffy without feeling stiff – you won’t regret giving into the hype with this.
Honestly when it comes to eyeshadow palettes I’ve never had one that’s my stand out favourite, until using the Charlotte Tilbury Look In a Palette. All of the shades are wearable, the pigmentation and formulation is perfect and it really does just tick all of the boxes. I’ve found myself wearing eyeshadow so much more because I love this so much. Annoyingly I can’t find it online anywhere, but if you see it then I would seriously recommend getting your hands on it. Another discovery that’s changed my eye makeup routine is the Giorgio Armani Eccentrico mascara, if you like your lashes to look long and defined with a good amount of volume too then you will absolutely love this. I have no trouble with smudging or the mascara flaking throughout the day either, this has become my all time favourite mascara.
When it comes to primers and foundations I’m usually pretty fussy, I used the Benefit Porefessional a couple of years back and I didn’t really get along with it, now I actually have pores around my nose/ cheeks I’ve found it to be the perfect primer to help minimise their appearance and keep any oils away. It’s also really helping to keep my makeup in place for longer and makes everything look more flawless. A foundation I’ve discovered this year and fallen in love with is the Giorgio Armani Luminois Silk. This is a really beautiful base, it’s not the most long wearing in my collection but still lasts a good 6-7 hours before needing a touch up. This finish is just so natural and gives me that ‘naturally healthy skin look’. The last beauty discovery that I’ve made this year that I just couldn’t leave out is MAC Patisserie (atleast I think it was this year anyway…) This is the perfect nudey/pink lipstick for me, no matter what makeup look I’m wearing it just seems to complete it. Considering it’s a lustre finish it’s quite pigmented and lasts a good 3/4 hours on the lips before needing a top up. It’s a good dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect lipstick which is probably my all time fave.
There you have it, they’re my fave beauty discoveries of 2017! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, if you want to see what I got for Christmas this year there will be a video up on my YouTube channel later this week.
