Autumn is definitely my favourite season to play around with makeup.
Everything from my foundations to lipsticks has a revamp, and I love turning to more affordable brands to try out new trends and pick up seasonal products. I was very kindly sent some of the best selling products from NYX Professional Makeup to celebrate that it’s now available to purchase at Debenhams – so as you can imagine I’m trailing and loving a lot of their products right now… here are some of my favourite affordable options that I’ll be reaching for this year.
For my base I want something that’s long lasting but not too matte. To prime I’ve been using the NYX Professional Makeup Shine Free Primer in the centre of my face under the L’Oreal True Match Foundation. This combination works so well for me, powdered my base stays intact all day, the foundation is perfect if you like a good coverage with a natural looking satin finish. If you have large pores another good primer is the Pore Filler which I’ll sometimes use instead of the Shine Free primer. Another L’Oreal buy I’ve been loving lately is their new True Match Concealer – a Lydia Millen enabled purchase. It’s like a hybrid between an illuminating product like the YSL Touche Eclat and a normal concealer making it perfect to brighten the eyes.
In the cooler months I tend to step up my highlight and go for something a little more dramatic, the Strobe of Genius palette is absolutely stunning and something I know I’ll be reaching for regardless of the time of year. It’s amazingly pigmented, soft to touch and the shade selection is gorgeous.
This summer I barely wore any eye makeup to be honest, one coat of mascara on my top lashes and that was that on a day to day basis. I’ve already noticed that as the weather has become cooler I’ve started reaching for eyeshadow again and applying more layers of mascara. I recently bought the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara and it’s well and truly got me back into thick and full looking lashes, it’s incredible! It holds a curl and volume all day and doesn’t transfer, well worth the hype.
For eyeshadows I’ve been loving warm tones – as per, but going a little darker than usual. The Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette is my fave, but a good affordable alternative that also includes highlighting shades is the NYX Professional Makeup Contour Initiative palette in Warm Zone. The matte shades are beautiful for the autumn months and look amazing with the shimmers in the palette too, it’s perfect for my weekend away in Berlin next month. I’m also loving the Maybelline Colour Tattoo cream eyeshadows, on and on brozne is so pretty and works well when I haven’t got much time to blend powder eyeshadow.
One of the things I look forward to most about autumn is being able to change up my lip and nail colour to deep berry red/ burgundy shades – seriously! The Soft Matte Lip Creams have been a go to of mine for years – full review and swatches of my collection here. When I saw the shade Budapest I knew it would become a new go to, it’s the most perfect deep red/ purple shade. If you follow me on Instagram I’m sure you’ll see this make an appearance more than once over the next few months.
When I fancy a glossy lip I’ve been loving the Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait, it’s another old fave of mine and although it looks very pink in the tube it actually comes out as a milky pink that looks lovely over any nude lipstick.
