There are so many resources out there which make the little DIY jobs you do yourself actually pretty successful! To cut costs and add more of a personal touch we’ve decided that there will be quite a few things that we’ve made ourselves to complete our wedding.
I’ve taken a lot of inspirational from Pinterest, magazines and Rock My Wedding and decided I would love to have a wedding sign outside to greet our guests. We already have the black board and a stand which we just need to polish up. I’m teaching myself modern calligraphy and I’m hoping I’ll be good enough to complete the sign myself by the time next April comes around. Another thing I want to do myself is the table numbers/ signs. Again it’s something that seems relatively easy to do (if i can master calligraphy that is…), and I would love to be able to say to our guests that I did all of the calligraphy – I’ll keep you updated on how I get on!
I won’t be making the bouquets myself, however for the table centre pieces it’s going to have to be a DIY job. To be honest it’s the one thing I was really unsure about, if we had a bigger budget I would be hiring a florist to do them but with 8 tables and the arrangements I want costing £100+ from a professional, it’s just too much! Anyway, after looking online there’s still so much that can be done that looks good, and it means we will be able to afford so many more flowers which ultimately I would prefer.
For our engagement party we made a sweet table ourselves and I loved the way it turned out. It’s one of those things that you really can do yourself and save a lot of money with. I’m going to do a whole post about the sweet table and how we plan on styling it soon, there will be lots of flowers and pretty gold touches! At our venue we can only use biodegradable natural confetti, so we’re going to provide our guests with little confetti cones filled with dried rose petals. I’ve looked into it and it’s really easy to do and I think it’s going to look really pretty in the pictures!
Another little thing I want to provide for the guests is a basket of flip flops for the evening. I was very kindly sent some gorgeous Havaianas flip flops from their bridal collection, so I know I’m sorted for the wedding and honeymoon! For the guests I was thinking of just picking up some white flip flops and having a little basket where they can help themselves.
I’m sure there will be plenty of other things I end up doing myself for the wedding, but so far these are some of the bigger things that will definitely be a DIY job!
