For a while now I’ve wanted to switch to a more natural, sulfate free shampoo. I have coloured hair that’s very oily at the roots and dry at the ends, and although shampoo containing sulfates does leave my hair feeling clean, I’m pretty sure it’s causing long term damage and stripping my colour quicker.
After reading up on sulfates and what they actually are it just confirmed that I needed to make the change. Sulfates in shampoo are usually listed as Sodium Laureth Sulfate in the ingredients list and referred to as SLS. They strip the hair of natural oils making it become dry over time, which definitely isn’t something I want my shampoo to do to my hair.
Grow Gorgeous got in touch right on time, they specialise in haircare that’s only beneficial to the hair using natural ingredients – and one hell of a lot of science behind their products. The Grow Gorgeous Hair Density Shampoo * was what I was most excited to try, but honestly at first I wasn’t actually convinced and it took some getting used to. I missed the sensation of lathering product into the roots and I noticed that it definitely took longer to rinse all of the shampoo out. As my hair started to adjust to sulfate free, that’s when I really started to enjoy using this. I have fine hair and I don’t find this to feel heavy at all, it leaves it feeling soft, shiny, full and healthy but most important, clean! I can’t wait to keep using this and see the long term results, because my hair already looks and feels better after a few weeks.
I have also been using the Grow Gorgeous Strengthening Oil *. I have started using this whilst my hair is wet, almost as a leave in treatment through the mid lengths and ends. It’s lightweight and feels much thinner than other oils I’ve tried previously making it perfect for me. I use heat on my hair every time I wash it and I think continually using this will help protect and strengthen my hair from that. In terms of styling my hair by the time I’ve used endless amounts of texturizing spray there isn’t much of a difference, although it does look smoother and less frizzy after blow drying which I’m seriously impressed with. I think this would be perfect for anyone who likes to wear their hair straight or goes for a sleeker finish.
Lastly I’ve been trying out the Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox*. This has well and truly made it’s way into my weekly pamper routine. I’ve only used this 3 times so far but every single time I’ve noticed a pretty big difference. You know when you get a professional blow dry and they manage to make your hair feel lightweight, super clean and healthy? I see those kinds of results after I use this. Using so many styling products I have definitely been missing this from my routine.
The only catch with switching to sulfate free is the price, although I’m starting to see it as an essential. I go to the hairdressers and get my hair coloured so I really need to look after it, like good quality skincare it’s worth the investment for me. Using some of the Grow Gorgeous haircare has just made me realise how important it really is to look after my locks.
What are your thoughts on sulfate free shampoo? I’m definitely intrigued to try more…
