Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Review

Kiehl’s is one of my go to brands when it comes to skincare. My skin just seems to love the stuff, and it’s absolutely no different when it comes to the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. It’s their number one best selling moisturiser, so I was intrigued to try it and see what the hype was about. I have combination skin, oily in parts and dehydrated in others, so adding moisture without overloading it is crucial. The kind of moisturisers I typically like are light in texture but hydrating, don’t leave my makeup slipping throughout the day and to be honest, are pretty fuss free. So with all that in mind, here’s my review and thoughts on the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream!

The ingredients list

Ultra Facial Cream is formulated with glacial glycoprotein and olive-derived squalane, two ingredients aimed at adding further hydration into the skin, and proven to still perform in everyday extreme relative humidities. I quite like that the moisturiser doesn’t have huge claims, it’s simply aimed at providing hydration and helping skin become more balanced, which I absolutely need.

How it feels on combination skin & formulation

The first thing I noticed when I tried the ultra facial cream was the texture. It’s lightweight and almost gel like making it absorb into the skin within a few seconds. Having dehydrated skin, with some products I do get that instant relief after applying it, and as soon as I used this my skin felt less tight and soothed. After one week my skin was noticeably more hydrated, my makeup lasted better throughout the day and my complexion looked less dull.

My skin was so dehydrated it was starting to become slightly flaky, even after just one use of this I started to notice improvements this once that started to clear up. The ingredients they use in this really do work to balance out the skin and aid with hydration.

Another thing with combination skin is finding a balance, and the Ultra Facial Cream absolutely does that. I have blemish prone skin so whenever I introduce a new product to my skincare routine it’s a risk. This has been perfect and if anything helped clear things up! This product hasn’t made my skin any oiler at all, so it’s perfect if you do struggle with oil in places.

How much I use, when I apply it and how long a 50ml tub lasts

I use a dollop around the size of an almond. This tends to be enough for my face and neck. I apply this in the mornings as the last step in my skincare routine, and when I can I like to give it 10-15 minutes to sink in before applying any makeup. In the evenings I’ve been using (and loving) the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate. The 50ml tub lasts around 3 months for me, using it every single morning. I don’t think that’s too bad going, but if you did want to use this in the evenings too you could see yourself buying a new pot frequently.

Two things I don’t like about the Ultra Facial Cream

I do wish is if this was in a pump form rather than a pot. It’s a small thing but it just makes it more hygienic. I also wish it was slightly cheaper. I know it’s good to invest in skincare, and as I mention I do see amazing results, but I feel like this would be perfect for teenagers/ those in their young twenties starting out with skincare but may be out of a lot of people’s budgets.

After looking into Kiehl’s as a brand more I have really fallen in love with their values and the products they have, I can’t wait to try some more of their skincare, I think next up will be the midnight recovery concentrate. The is the moisturiser everyone needs in their stash for the cooler months, it is so hard to avoid dehydrated skin in the winter but I think this will be everyone’s little saviour!

Have you tried any Kiehl’s products or have a skincare essential for dehydrated skin?
